Suspect steals car, causes fatal accident in Platte Co.

PLATTE COUNTY, Mo. - Two people are dead after a suspected carjacker, who was fleeing from police, collided with another vehicle.

Just after 3 p.m., authorities say a man known for stealing vehicles carjacked a woman at gunpoint and initiated a pursuit with police.

The suspect’s stolen vehicle then hit a Kia Sportage head-on on westbound Highway 92, near Tracy, Mo., killing the driver of the Kia.

The suspect was taken by air ambulance to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police say the suspect did not have any form of identification on him, but that he is suspected of stealing three cars in St. Joseph earlier in the day.

The highway is expected to be closed between Tracy, Mo., and Beverly, Mo., until 6:30 p.m.
