OSBORN, Mo. - The Missouri State Highway Patrol says DNA will be used to obtain positive identification of two people killed when a small plane crashed in Clinton County early Tuesday evening.

The crash was reported a little before 5 p.m. near the Shatto Milk Company farm located at 9406 N Highway 33.

Sgt. Sheldon Lyon with Missouri State Highway Patrol said two men were flying over a friend’s house in Osborn.

Lyon said Wednesday DNA samples would be taken to the patrol’s crime lab and positive identification was expected within 24 to 48 hours.

The men in the plane knew the people at the home, who were outside waving at them, Lyon said. The plane crashed into a field about 200 yards north of the home in its second fly-by over the house, he said.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed to 41 Action News that two people inside the plane were killed in the crash.

The aircraft, a 1966 Piper Cherokee single engine propeller plane, is registered to a man from Independence, Mo., according to FAA records.

The Highway Patrol monitored the scene overnight and the FAA was scheduled to arrive Wednesday to begin their investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board will also investigate the incident.
