KANSAS CITY, Mo. - By Wednesday afternoon, two small businesses will get a major financial boost.
It is the final day of Think Big's Gigabit Challenge.
A total of 113 businesses from nine different countries entered the race in October. The pool was narrowed to 39 and now 19. Eleven of the finalists are from Kansas or Missouri.
The contest is focused on start-up ideas or businesses that are tech-based and have the most potential to harness the new Google fiber network in Kansas City. The bandwidth is expected to be 100 times faster than normal speeds when the network launches. A Think Big spokesperson said it could be online by the fall of 2012.
Each business will make a presentation and answer questions throughout the day. By 5:30 p.m., the judges will announce the winner of a $100,000 prize and a $250,000 promissory note. There will also be a People's Choice winner who will earn bragging rights but no cash prize.
