(NBC) - A new smartphone app shows users how alcohol can ravage their face over time.
With the Drinking Mirror app, users upload a photo of their face and enter how much they drink. What comes back isn't always a pretty picture.
The app generates a photo that shows the potential long-term effects of drinking -- weight gain, deeper wrinkles and red cheeks, among other things.
The app is part of a campaign by the Scottish government to encourage women to more closely monitor how much they're drinking.
According to the CDC, almost 14 million women in the United States -- or about one in every eight -- binge drink three times a month.
