OLATHE, Kan. - Google Fiber is coming to Olathe.
The city council reached an agreement Tuesday that would bring Google’s super high-speed internet to Olathe and its 128,000 residents.
Olathe joins Kansas City, Kan., Kansas City, Mo., Westwood, Kan., Westwood Hills, Kan., and Mission Woods, Kan., as cities on Google’s list to receive the service, said to be up to 100-times faster than current internet speeds.
“We have some great solutions already, but this is one that is really transformational for our residents who have been calling for this for quite some time,” Olathe Mayor Michael Copeland said. “We’ve had Google Fiber envy here ever since it was announced coming to Kansas City.”
Olathe stands to get a five percent franchise fee on gross receipts generated by Google Fiber in the city.
