CHICAGO - When a Chicago area woman couldn't use her phone to call police, she turned to Facebook and Twitter.
The 29-year-old woman says social media saved her life.
She was sexually assaulted and held hostage inside her apartment by her boyfriend for five hours.
He reportedly ransacked the room, sexually assaulted her and refused to let her leave.
While the man looked through her phone in another room the victim grabbed her laptop and asked her Facebook friends to call 911.
"I don't know how many people saw it and how many people called, but apparently there were quite a number,” she said. "I just want to say thank you to everybody who read my message and didn't think it was some kind of hoax."
Police showed up at her door only 15 minutes after her post and arrested the suspect.
