FRANKLIN COUNTY, Kan. - Residents in parts of Miami, Douglas and Franklin Counties had their 911 calls re-routed Thursday afternoon after a fiber line was cut.
Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards said a construction crew struck a fiber line just outside of Baldwin City, Kan. around 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, cutting 911 service for telephone users with an 883 prefix.
Authorities were quickly able to establish a backup dispatch center at the Wellsville Police Department, with representatives from each jurisdiction helping to dispatch calls.
Richards didn't know how many calls had to be diverted during the outage, which had been repaired by 9:30 p.m.
