Journalism students at Kan. HS pitch in for holiday gifts

SALINA, Kan. - Christmas is less than two weeks away, and some students at Salina High School are doing their part to spread Christmas cheer to fellow teens.

For the past five years, the journalism class at Salina South High School has bought gifts for other teenagers who don’t have the money to enjoy the holidays.

When presents are collected, social workers at the school pass them along to the parents, who in turn give them to the students.

“They’re not buying stuff for themselves, they’re spending their own money to buy gifts for others and their own peers rather than someone else in town,” adviser Kim Warren said.

For 2012, the class has more money for the gifts after receiving a youth community grant.
