BASEHOR, Kan. - A 15-year-old from Tonganoxie was killed in a crash with a semi early Tuesday in Leavenworth County, Kan.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says Shealyn Hayes was in the passenger seat of a Ford Explorer SUV driven by a 16-year-old male relative when the car, heading northbound on 166th Street, failed to yield to a tractor-trailer that was traveling westbound on US 24/40 Highway.
The semi struck the passenger side of the teens' SUV.
Shealyn, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to an area hospital, where she died of her injuries.
