LAWRENCE, Kan. - A 21-year-old Leawood man died Friday night when he ran a stop sign and collided with another SUV at the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and County Road 458, just south of Lawrence.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that Brian Addison Boyd was driving east on the county road about 11 p.m. Friday when he failed to stop his Ford Explorer for a sign at the intersection with Highway 59. His SUV collided with one driven by a 40-year-old Shawnee, Kan., woman, Deborah M. Chitwood.
Boyd’s car rolled more than two times before he was partially ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while Chitwood was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The Highway Patrol report said that Boyd was not wearing a seat belt, and that alcohol was not suspected as a factor in the crash.
