OLATHE, Kansas - Right now if you try to send a text for help to 911 it goes nowhere, but the Johnson County 911 Center will be able to upgrade to a fully digital world now that the State of Kansas has approved a funding source.
Within a year, 911 dispatchers will be able to receive a text for help and even text you back.
Eventually the system will handle pictures and videos too.
Kansas cell phone users will be charged extra fees to pay for the upgrade statewide but then when danger strikes, you can use your phone to call or text for help from 911.
