KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A suspected robber who was shot by a bank employee led police on a high-speed chase that ended in northern Kansas City Friday afternoon, police said.
Authorities say the man was suspected of robbing the First Security Bank in Trimble, Mo., about 45 minutes north of Kansas City.
The man displayed a weapon and demanded money shortly after 1:30 p.m., Trimble Police Chief Larry Fish said in a news conference early Friday evening.
A bank employee pulled a gun and shot the suspect before he left the bank, according to the Associated Press.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol chased the suspect south on Interstate 435. The Kansas City Police Department joined the chase, as well.
The suspect hit stop sticks as he crossed over 152 Highway. His car became disabled, and he was arrested on the highway near 76th Street.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital and was last listed in stable condition, Fish said.
