WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - A Tabor College football player has died about a week after he was found badly beaten in McPherson.
Tabor College says on its website that Brandon Brown, a 26-year-old defensive lineman from Sacramento, Calif., died late Saturday at a Wichita hospital.
Brown was hospitalized after he was found lying unconscious on a McPherson street early last Sunday.
McPherson police chief Robert McClarty said Saturday before Brown died that a 19-year-old Texas man was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery in connection with the beating and is being held on $100,000 bond. McClarty says additional charges are likely because of Brown's death.
Tabor says counseling services have been set up for students at Tabor, which is in Hillsboro, about 25 miles east of McPherson and affiliated with the Mennonite faith.
