Dispatchers say crews were called out to US 24/40 Highway near Kansas Highway 32 in a rural western portion of the county around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Investigators say a 2002 Ford Ranger, driven by Thomas Holland, 86, of Basehor, Kan., crossed over the center line of the highway and struck a second car driven by a 19-year-old Basehor, Kan., woman.
Holland was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was transported to University of Kansas Hospital with serious injuries.
