WARSAW, Mo. - Authorities said they have shifted the focus of their investigation into the death of a 15-year-old Missouri girl whose body was found weighted down in Truman Lake to the area where she likely died.

A boater found the body of Khighla Parks Sept. 30 in the lake, located in Warsaw in Benton County.

In a statement Monday, Benton County Sheriff Rick Fajen said Khighla, who was reported missing Sept. 20 from her home in Willard, was last seen in the area of Buffalo, Mo., before her death.

Investigators believe something that happened in Buffalo, in Dallas County, may have led to her death, Fajen said, and are now pinpointing their efforts there.

Authorities believe Khighla died before her body was dumped in the lake, though they have not released a cause of death or said when they think she might have died.

The case is being treated as a homicide.

If you know anything about what happened, you are urged to call the Benton County Sheriff’s Office at 660-438-5252.
