LEXINGTON, Mo. - An elderly couple died Friday morning when fire swept through their Lexington, Mo., home.
Lexington Police Chief Don Rector identified the victims as Nick Deamos, 84, and Maxine Deamos, 79.
Police and fire crews arrived at the house just after 6 a.m. Friday in the 900 block of Highland Drive, Chief Rector said. They found the house engulfed in flames.
Firefighters knocked down the fire and were able to go inside the house. They found the couple in their bedroom. Both were taken to hospitals where they later died.
Rescue crews evacuated residents from houses on both sides of the fire because of the intensity of the fire, Rector said.
