HIGH RIDGE, Mo. (AP) - An eastern Missouri man is jailed on multiple charges after police say he kidnapped a woman at gunpoint from her Jefferson County home.
KSDK-TV reports authorities believe the suspect intended to rob a jewelry store owned by the woman and her husband.
Sheriff's deputies say the couple found the armed man in the kitchen of their High Ridge home around 9 a.m. Monday. The couple said the intruder tied up the husband, forced the woman into her own car and ordered her to drive to the jewelry store.
The husband freed himself and called police. Officers stopped the car with spike strips after a chase and arrested the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Derrick Stewart.
Court records were not updated because of the holiday. It's not known if Stewart has a lawyer.
