CLAY COUNTY, Mo. - An overnight fire destroyed a three bedroom family home near Liberty, but the residents got out safely.

About 1:40 a.m. crews were called to 9200 Dry Dock Drive in unincorporated Clay County on a house fire.

A family of four that included a husband and wife, their 22 year old daughter and her boyfriend were reportedly home sleeping at the time, but were able to get out safely.

Smithville Area Fire Protection District, Edgerton-Trimble Fire, Holt Fire and Kearney Fire crews responded to the scene.

The home was reportedly fully involved when crews arrived, and the house is a total loss.

The cause has not yet been determined.

The American Red Cross is helping the family with food, clothing and shelter.
