LAKE OZARK, Mo. (AP) - A man has drowned while swimming in the Niangua River in the Ozarks.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the victim as 20-year-old James Larger of Lebanon, Missouri. He was fishing Friday afternoon when he decided to swim downstream from the Whistle Dam in Camden County.

When he began struggling, bystanders attempted to rescue him. But the patrol says they were unable to pull him from the water.

Larger was pronounced dead at the scene.
