JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri voters will get a say this November on one of the provisions of the federal health care law -- no matter whether the U.S. Supreme Court upholds or rejects it.
The court is expected to rule Thursday on a challenge to the law signed by President Barack Obama. The decision could affect a provision requiring states to set up online health insurance exchanges by 2014 or else let the federal government run one for them.
Even if that provision is struck down, Missouri's ballot will feature a proposition asking whether to prohibit Gov. Jay Nixon's administration from taking steps to implement an insurance exchange without specific authorization in state law.
The vote may be largely symbolic, because Nixon has said he will not order an exchange to be created.
