KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It's a century old debate -- Missour-ee versus Missour-uh. The New York Times says the "uh" is a Kansas City thing.
According to The Times, some people think it's an east-west habit, with St. Louis favoring the "ee" and Kansas City favoring the "uh." But others say Missour-ee is the city pronunciation, and Missour-uh is the country.
We decided to ask the source itself -- people who actually live in Missouri -- how they pronounce the state name. Hear their answers in the video player above.
