LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. -  A 6-year-old Johnson County, Kan., girl drowned Sunday at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Grace E. Shaw, of Stillwell, Kan., was swimming with family members at about 11 a.m. near the 13 mile marker at Chimney Point Cove, according to an incident report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Water Patrol division.

Grace wandered away from her group and was found face down near the dock, the report said.

Emergency crews rushed her to an area hospital, where a doctor pronounced her dead just before 12:30 p.m.

Grace was a first-grade student at Morse Elementary School in the Blue Valley School District.
