JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. - The Army says a 21-year-old soldier from Columbia, Missouri has died of injuries suffered when his vehicle was attacked with an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan.

Specialist Sterling Wyatt died Wednesday. He was injured in Kandahar Province.

Wyatt was assigned to 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

He joined the Army in November 2010 and arrived at the Washington state base south of Seattle in March 2011.

Wyatt deployed to Afghanistan last December. This was his first deployment.
