KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A local grocery store is accused of hiring underage workers.
The Missouri Labor Department found Hy-Vee, Inc., in Independence, Mo., employed two children under 14 years old.
The state also cited Hy-Vee Inc., for not having work certificates on file, not having a posted list of child employees, and not maintaining personnel files.
The state fined Hy-Vee $3,200.
In Missouri, it's illegal for anyone under the age of 14 to work in anything but entertainment or casual jobs.
The Department of Labor did not specifiy if the violations occured at the location on Noland Road or on E. 23rd Street South.
