KANSAS CITY, Missouri - The Missouri Attorney General says African Americans are stopped more than white or Hispanic drivers, but he stopped short of calling it racial profiling.
Missouri’s 10th Annual Report on Vehicle Stops released Tuesday shows African American drivers are 70 percent more likely to be pulled over than whites.
When it comes to searches, Hispanics dominated the charts.
They were twice as likely to be searched after a stop, but the least likely to have illegal goods.
The contraband hit rate was lowest for Hispanics despite being searched the most. The contraband hit rate was highest for whites despite being searched the least.

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster says the disparity in stops and searches for African Americans and Hispanics is not necessarily an indicator of racial profiling because the reports do not indicate the reason for the stop.
He's hopeful that the objective data will open discussions on racial profiling and lead to positive changes in police training and state legislation.
