ST LOUIS - One of the world’s most popular furniture stores is opening next year in Johnson County, Kan., and if reports are true, Missouri will have its own store shortly afterward.

IKEA announced last fall they would open their first store in either state in Merriam, Kan. The open date for the 350,000 square-foot location is set for fall 2014.

According to NextSTL.com , the Swedish retailer has plans to open a similarly-sized store in St. Louis, close to the campus of St. Louis University.

IKEA has made no formal announcement regarding expansion to St. Louis.
