KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Three Kansas City Royals prospects have been named as participants in the roster for the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
Wil Myers, Jake Odorizzi and Yordano Ventura will attempt to join the list of 88 players who have competed in the Futures Game and went on to compete in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Myers, 21, is tied for the minor league baseball lead with 24 home runs; Odorizzi, 22, recorded 81 strikeouts in 71.2 innings while holding opponents to a .219 average; and Ventura, 21, a Dominican Republic native, worked a scoreless inning with a walk and strikeout at the Carolina-California League All-Star Game on Tuesday.
Myers and Odorizzi will play with the U.S. squad against Ventura, who is teamed up with the World roster. This is Myers second appearance in the Futures Game.
The 14th annual Futures Game will begin at 4 p.m. July 8 at Kauffman Stadium. Top Minor League prospects will compete as part of the Taco Bell All-Star Sunday, the first of three days of All-Star events. The game will be shown live on ESPN2, ESPN2 HD and MLB.TV.
