KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the first time since 1998, the Royals have a Silver Slugger Award winner. Billy Butler took home the honor as the top designated hitter in the American League.

Butler hit .313 with 32 doubles, 29 home runs and 107 RBI this past season. He spent the majority of his time as the designated hitter.

The Silver Slugger Award is voted on by MLB coaches and mangers. They select the best offensive players at each position in each league. Butler is the first Royal to win the award since Dean Palmer in 1998.
