KANSAS CITY, Mo. - 41 Action News Sports Director Jack Harry sat down for a one-on-one interview with Royals General Manager Dayton Moore on Thursday.
The two discussed hot topics with the Royals organization -- including pitching, the off-season, new additions to the team and the expectation for this season.
Moore said one of the biggest improvements they wanted to make this year is with their pitching rotation, adding James Shields, Wade Davis, Ervin Santana and resigning Jeremy Guthrie.
"Our starting rotation has not responded the way that it needs to," Moore explained. "Some things fell right for us this off-season, and it really started when we made the deal to move to Jonathan Sanchez for Jeremy Guthrie."
Harry also asked Moore what he feels it's going to take to win the AL Central this season. The Detroit Tigers won the division last year with a 88-74 record. The Royals finished the season at 72-90.
"For us to win the division, it's going to take 88 to 92 wins," Moore said. "I think everyone in the division is better -- Detroit is better. But I believe that we are athletic, if not more athletic, than everybody in our division."
Moore remains confident about the players the Royals have on their roster.
"We like the talent we have, and truthfully, I think our guys offensively are trending upward, and I'm excited to see what they continue to do," he said.
The Royals will open up spring training on Monday, when the pitchers and catchers report to Surprise, Ariz.
