KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A man proposed to his girlfriend – who gave him one of her kidneys earlier this year – while they were throwing out the first pitch at the Royals game at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday.
Taesha Benson donated one of her kidneys to Travis Spire-Sweet, her boyfriend of 10 months, just before Valentine's Day. Travis was born with only 25 percent of a functioning kidney, and Taesha was a perfect match.
Right after the couple threw out the first pitch at the Royals-Cardinals game Tuesday night, Travis surprised Taesha by dropping down on one knee.
"I thought it was a good time to thank the person who saved my life, and hopefully have the rest of my life to thank her for what she did," Travis explained.
She said yes.
Travis said he decided to propose to her at the K because one of their first dates was to a Royals game.
