KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Royals have announced who will round out their pitching rotation to start the 2013 season.
Luis Mendoza will be the fifth starter when Kansas City begins this year’s schedule next month, Royals Vice President of Communications and Broadcasting Mike Swanson tweeted Tuesday morning.
Mendoza is joined on the rotation by previously-announced Opening Day starter James Shields, Ervin Santana, Jeremy Guthrie and Wade Davis.
Mendoza beats out Bruce Chen for the fifth starting position. Chen will begin the season in the bullpen, Swanson said in his tweet.
