SURPRISE, Ariz. - Royals manager Ned Yost has named his Opening Day starter at pitcher.
Coming as no big surprise, Yost says new addition James Shields will take the mound April 1 at Chicago.
Yost also announced 80 percent of his pitching rotation, with Ervin Santana, Jeremy Guthrie and Wade Davis making up the first four starters.
The fifth slot in the rotation remains undecided and will go to either Bruce Chen and Luis Mendoza, Yost said.
Under this five-man rotation, Santana is scheduled to be the pitcher on Opening Day at the K, April 8 at Kauffman Stadium against the Minnesota Twins.
