The Labor Day weekend was a great way to kick off the 2010 College Football season.
Unless, that is, you’re a KU fan. The Jayhawks opened the season, the first under head coach Turner Gill, with a shocking 6-3 loss to FCS North Dakota State .
Predictions had varied before the season began for Kansas, who lost seven consecutive games to end the 2009 season ending 5-7 and just 1-7 in the Big 12.
“I had no idea KU was going to be this bad,” said NBC Action Sports Director Jack Harry in his 10 p.m. telecast Sunday. “(Turner Gill) did a lousy job getting this team ready for the opener. This KU team looked soft to me.”
See highlights of the game, plus much more of what Jack thinks about the embarrassing loss, by clicking on the first video attached to this story.
As far as Kansas State goes, Jack says Wildcat quarterback Carson Coffman didn’t look great in their 32-22 season-opening victory against UCLA , but with K-State’s running game, he doesn’t have to.
Kansas State running back Daniel Thomas, who led the Big 12 in rushing last year, picked up right where he left off, carrying 28 times for a career-best 234 yards.
For highlights of the game and more on what Jack had to say about Coffman, Thomas and the Wildcats, select the second video attached to this story.
In St. Louis on Saturday, Jack says it was clearly a tale of two halfs for Missouri in their 23-13 victory over Illinois .
“I thought coach Gary Pinkel was badly outcouched in the first half,” Jack said. “To his credit, his staff made the right adjustments at the intermission.”
Jack worries about the Tigers’ inability to defend the option, a big problem for Mizzou after what Navy did in last year’s Bowl Game.
You can see highlights of the game, plus reaction from players and of course, hear more of what Jack has to say by clicking the third video attached to this story.
Kansas State radio analyst Stan Weber joined Jack in studio Sunday night to discuss all three games. Hear all of what he had to say by clicking on the fourth video attached to this story.
