KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Two local standouts have been named to the preseason All-Big 12 team. Missouri's Marcus Denmon and Kansas' Thomas Robinson were honored. Baylor's Perry Jones III has been tabbed Preseason Player of the Year.
Denmon earned All-Big 12 First-Team honors last season. He notched 16.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game as a junior. He was the lone senior named to this year's preseason All-Big 12 team.
Robinson scored 7.6 points and grabbed 6.4 points last season as a sophomore. He was one of three unanimous selections on this year's preseason squad.
“I’m glad the coaches selected me, but this is like the other preseason teams I’m on, based on potential. I have to prove it during the year."
Jones turned down the NBA to return to Waco for his sophomore season. He averaged 13.9 points and 7.2 rebounds in his freshman campaign.
Royce White from Iowa State has been picked as the Preseason Newcomer of the Year. The 6'8" forward is a sophomore transfer from the University of Minnesota. He never played in a game for the Golden Gophers but was rated as a Top-20 recruit coming out of high school.
Oklahoma State's LeBryan Nash has been tabbed as the Preseason Freshman of the Year. The 6'7" swingman was a McDonald's All-American.
