The winning teams from the opening day of the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City have earned a date with co-champions Kansas and Kansas State.
Texas Tech gets the tournament’s top seed Kansas. Texas moves on to play Kansas State.
Here’s a look at what the Red Raiders and Longhorns coaches said after their teams’ victories Wednesday night about facing the Jayhawks and Wildcats.
Texas Tech Coach Chris Walker on playing the top seed in the tournament:
“That's part of the game. Again, that's competition. That's why we're in the Big 12. That's why I like coaching in the Big 12. That's why my players like playing in the Big 12. You've got an opportunity to play on national TV and postseason play versus the No. 1 seed in the league.
So there's nothing to run from; something to run to. And that's something that, again, as our program ascends and as we look forward to the future, these are the kind of games we want to be in all the time. So this is a great precursor to what we believe the future is going to be like.”

Texas Coach Rick Barnes on playing No. 2 seed Kansas State:
“Well, I'm not sure they're not the best team, one of the best teams in the country. They're the conference champion. And that's for a reason, because this is a team that they know how to win. They know each other.
“I think it's a team that really understands their roles extremely well, that they stay together. And it's a group of guys that, again I mean, what can you say? They're the conference champ. And Bruce has done a great job with them. They defend you. They don't give you anything easy. On the offensive end, they really, really play well together.”
