K-State's Meshak Williams is latest Wildcat to win Big 12 Player of the Week award

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Make it four weeks in a row for a Kansas State football player to be named Big 12 Player of the Week.

It happened on Monday to the newly ranked No. 1 team in the country. Senior defensive end Meshak Williams was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. K-State’s Allen Chapman last week won the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week award.

Kansas State leads the Big 12 with nine honors this year. The Wildcats have a Big 12-leading 18 players of the week since the start of 2011.

Williams was part of a K-State defense that held TCU to just 10 points on Saturday in a 23-10 KSU victory. It was the lowest point total at home during the Gary Patterson era. Williams finished with a career high seven tackles and a career best three tackles for loss. He also had two sacks, pushing his Big 12 sack lead to 8.5.

Kansas State, No. 1 in the BCS, next plays at Baylor Saturday at 7 p.m. K-State has the next week off before finishing the regular season at home against Texas on Saturday, Dec. 1.

If the Wildcats win their last two games, they will play in their first BCS National Championship on January 7 at Sun Life Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins.
