PARKVILLE, Missouri - There was a special visitor this week at Kactus Creek Croquet club in Parkville, Missouri.

Kansas State head basketball Frank Martin stopped there on Wednesday night to be the guest of the Northland Catbackers. The second annual event raised funds for the Kansas State Athletic department/Ahern fund.

Coach Martin is known for his basketball coaching. But he tried playing some croquet for a short time at the event. He also spoke to a passionate group of about 50 K-State fans.

“This is a great group of K-Staters, “Martin said. “They started this as a sidekick to the Kansas City Catbacker organization. They wanted me to come last year, and I couldn’t make it work. It’s great to come out and thank our fans.”

Park Hill High School graduate Matt Griffith built the Kactus Creek Croquet Club. It’s located off K Highway, just west of Parkville. The course has been there for four years.

It took Griffith seven years to build the club. He has been playing in national croquet events for 21 years. Griffith holds fundraisers, team building and other events at the club. For more information, people can go to kactuscreek.com or like the club on Facebook.
