LAWRENCE, Kan. - This has been an offseason of turnover for the Kansas basketball coaching staff. Bill Self has announced one addition and one subtraction.
Self has hired one of his former players as an assistant coach. Jerrance Howard will take over for Joe Dooley. Howard spent last season working under Larry Brown at SMU. Howard played for Self at Illinois.
“Jerrance has great energy, is unbelievably positive and in a short amount of time has established himself as one of the better recruiters in college basketball. Having worked for one of my former assistants, Billy Gillispie, and my former mentor Larry Brown, I’m totally comfortable with him coming in here, having a smooth transition and having an immediate, positive impact on our program.”
Self also announced the departure of Doc Sadler from the program. He has been hired as an assistant coach at Iowa State. Sadler spent last season as Kansas' director of basketball operations. Self says he is hoping to hire Sadler's replacement in the next couple of weeks.
"Doc will be a huge asset for their team not only from a recruiting standpoint, but also as an on-the-floor coach. He’s a terrific coach that loved what he did last year but missed getting a chance to work with the guys in practice. I think this is a win-win for everybody."
