COLUMBIA, Mo. - Kansas City, Missouri native and Mizzou star guard Marcus Denmon won the Big 12 Player of the Week award on Monday after an impressive performance against the Kansas Jayhawks.
Denmon broke out of a shooting slump by scoring 29 points in Mizzou’s 74-71 victory against Kansas on Saturday night in Columbia. It was the second best point total of his career.
Mizzou finished the game on an 11-0 run, and Denmon scored nine of those 11 points in the Tigers’ comeback win. Denmon made six three-pointers in the game.
The senior guard scored at least 20 points for the 24th time in his career. It’s the third time Denmon has won the Big 12 weekly award. He won it twice last season.
Denmon went to Hogan Prep Academy in Kansas City.
Missouri doesn't have much time to celebrate their border showdown victory. The Tigers return to action on Monday night when they play at Oklahoma. Tip-off is set for 6 pm.
