KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It’s official. The Chiefs on Monday announced they have reached an agreement with Brian Daboll to be their offensive coordinator.
The Chiefs had been in discussions on Saturday with Daboll. Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel had hoped to finalize the search over Super Bowl weekend, and he pulled it off.
Former Chiefs offensive coordinator Al Saunders and Chiefs quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn also reportedly interviewed for the job.
But Crennel chose someone who he knows well. The 36-year-old Daboll served as the Patriots’ wide receivers coach from 2002-06. He worked with Crennel and Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli in New England.
Daboll was the quarterbacks coach for the New York Jets from 2007-08. He served as the Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator from 2009-10 before working as the Dolphins offensive coordinator last season.
The Browns offense ranked 32nd in yardage in 2009 and 29th in 2010. The Dolphins offense ranked 22nd last season.
The Chiefs have now had five offensive coordinators the last four years.
