KANSAS CITY, MO. - A Chiefs defensive assistant coach faces a DUI charge after a Sunday night wreck.

A Kansas City Police Department spokesman told 41 Action News the incident involved Adam Zimmer, who also serves as the team's assistant linebackers coach.

Dispatchers sent officers to a wreck about 9 p.m. near Ward Parkway and Huntington Road.

Zimmer was at the scene and issued a city citation for DUI, according to the police spokesman.

Zimmer was not injured.

No word on how the wreck occurred or the number of vehicles involved.

A spokesman from the team said they are gathering information and could have more to say later today.

Zimmer is in his third season with the Chiefs.

According to the team's website, he studies opponent tendencies and helps put together computer and scouting reports.

Zimmer worked with Chiefs defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs during a four-year stay with the New Orleans Saints.

He put together reports on Saints opponents, worked with linebackers and helped with the playbook, according to the Chiefs website.

Zimmer's father, Mike, is the defensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals.
