Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel shows up to Arrowhead on crutches

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The news at Arrowhead continues to be a downer for the team and its head coach.

Romeo Crennel showed up to his regularly scheduled news conference on Thursday morning on crutches.

"I had my knee aspirated this morning," Crennel said. "That's why I'm poking along a little bit. It should be okay. I've been icing. I just have to go slow initially. Today at practice I may not be running around as much. I might have a seat and just watch today, take the load off of that knee."

Crennel might still be on crutches on Sunday at 3:25 p.m. CT when the Chiefs kick off their season finale at Denver. There's also a chance Crennel could coach the game from the press box.

"I hope not," he said. "If I need those, I'll probably be in the box."

The Chiefs head coach said he's been dealing with some pain throughout the entire season.

"Not regularly," he said. "Sometimes off and on. It gets sore and irritated. It blew up on me last night. When I went to the doctor, he took fluid off of that."

If Crennel has to coach the game from the press box, he didn't seem too concerned.

"I would just call the game from up there, make critical decisions from upstairs," he said. "Some people like to go upstairs because they think they can see more. I've always been a sideline guy."

Crennel isn’t the only one feeling down. Branden Albert was doubtful to practice on Thursday. Ryan Lilja, Tyson Jackson and Terrance Copper are battling injuries. Tony Moeaki is still not cleared to play. Donald Stephenson is still ill from a bug that's been going around the lockeroom. Cory Greenwood is also sick. Tamba Hali and Jamaal Charles were back at Arrowhead Thursday after being sent home sick on Wednesday.
