WICHITA, Kan. - As the Kansas City Chiefs sit at 1-3, with three blowout losses, a fan from Wichita is taking a stand, by taking to the air.
The season ticket holder named Eric (he did not want his last name published) is preparing a banner wit the words “WE DESERVE BETTER. FIRE PIOLI. BENCH CASSEL” that will be flown over Arrowhead Stadium for an hour before the Chiefs kick off Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.
"We are going to let them know exactly how we feel,” Eric said. “We still love this team. We still want to see them succeed but man, they have got to give us something to hope for."
Eric was especially fed up after the last loss, a 37-20 home defeat at the hands of the San Diego Chargers.
"I go home deflated not only because they lost, but because the stadium is empty, the crowd is not into it, there is just no life at Arrowhead anymore."
It was in a fan forum chat that he and several other die-hards decided to move forward with the idea.
So far, 80 people have donated a total of about $1,600. The banner and flyover cost about $700. They plan to use the extra funds for future messages.
But not all fans are on board with the ideas Eric is proposing.
"I don't think that benching Cassel and getting rid of Pioli in the middle of the season is going to help anything," Cheifs fan Deb Detwiler said.
Eric says in the end, he’s just hoping for more wins and stands packed with excited fans.
"We have no delusions that this is going to make Mr. Hunt go, 'Oh man, we've got to fire Scott Pioli,' or ‘Yes, Cassel needs to be benched.’"
