COLUMBUS, Ohio - In a statement Monday morning, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Mike Vrabel said he is leaving the NFL to coach in college.
“After 14 years in the NFL, I have decided to retire and accept the position of linebackers coach at the Ohio State University,” Vrabel said in the statement.
Vrabel played two seasons at linebacker for the Chiefs, joining the team in 2009 from the New England Patriots, where he won three Super Bowls.
The linebacker plans to coach linebackers at Ohio State University under first-year head coach Luke Fickell. He played defensive end for the Buckeyes during his college career.
“…I am looking forward to working with our student-athletes as I begin the next phase of my career,” Vrabel said.
