KANSAS CITY, Mo. - When Jovan Belcher shot and killed his live-in girlfriend and then took his own life, he left a 3-month-old girl with no parents.
Questions remain as to what the long-term future holds for the little girl, but according to NFL.com’s Ian Rappaport, her estate or guardian will be paid over $1 million over the course of her childhood, and possibly longer.
Rappaport reported on a video on NFL.com that according to the league’s collective bargaining agreement, the payments would equal $108,000 a year for the first four years, $48,000 the next year and then $52,000 each year until she turns 18 – or 23 if she goes to college.
Belcher, a fourth-year linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs, shot Kasandra Perkins, with whom he and his mother were sharing a home with, multiple times on Saturday morning.
He then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and took his own life after talking with Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli, Head Coach Romeo Crennel and Defensive Coordinator Gary Gibbs.
