INDIANAPOLIS - Former Chiefs offensive tackle Willie Roaf is heading to the Hall of Fame. Roaf was one of six men elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the Class of 2012. He will be enshrined on August 4th in Canton, Ohio.
Roaf was selected to 11 Pro Bowls in his 13-year career. Roaf helped anchor one of the greatest offensive lines in Chiefs history. He spent the final four seasons of his career in Kansas City after playing nine seasons in New Orleans. Chiefs owner Clark Hunt issued a congratulatory statement shortly following the announcement.
“On behalf of my family and the entire Chiefs organization, we are thrilled to congratulate Willie Roaf on his well-deserved selection to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2012. Willie is one of the finest offensive lineman to suit up in a Chiefs uniform and is worthy of this extremely prestigious honor.”
The Chiefs were hoping for even better news on Saturday. Roaf's teammate, guard Will Shields, did not make the cut. This was Shields' first year of eligibility for the Hall of Fame.
Joining Roaf in this year's class will be Dermontti Dawson, Chris Doleman, Cortez Kennedy, Curtis Martin and Jack Butler.
