KANSAS CITY, Mo. - This first snowfall of any significance reminded me it’s still winter around here, but I figure we're ahead of the game because March Madness is just several weeks away.
I don't mind a little snow, it's just all the noise leading up to it. It's February in KC - we're suppose to get snow. So, what's the big deal?
Anyhow, this Bracketology business seems to get a lot of people's attention, more so than ever around here because of the stellar play by Missouri and Kansas.
Both are in the Top 5 of the new poll this week. Both are listed as #1 seeds by Joe Lunardi of ESPN . He has Kentucky, Syracuse, Missouri and Kansas, in that order, on the top line.
Mizzou ahead of KU is significant for this reason - Missouri would play its first four games close to home, in Omaha and St. Louis.
KU, by being the fourth No. 1 seed, would be playing at Omaha, but after that, the Jayhawks would be sent to Phoenix for the west regional.
This is something KU fans aren't use to. Heck, the Jayhawks won a national championship in their own backyard at Kemper Arena.
That won't happen anymore. The NCAA has new guidelines in place to prevent it.
It sure would be nice to see both Missouri and Kansas on the first line as #1 seeds, but chances of that happening aren't very good. Two teams that play each other this late in the season have virtually no shot at both landing #1 seeds.
It’s no mystery that the winner of the KU/MU game a week from Saturday gets the easier path to the Final Four. I'm still on that Missouri bandwagon, and I ain't jumping off anytime soon.
That’s Jack’s Smack.
