KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City family has reason to be proud after watching their son win a gold medal.
John Coughlin won the pairs competition on Sunday for the second straight year at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
Coughlin wore a Kansas City, Missouri police shirt to honor his dad, who’s been an officer on the force for more than 30 years.
"I did not know that he was going to do that. That was kind of neat and I've got a lot of comments from my friends and stuff on that,” said Mike Coughlin, John’s dad.
"2010 was a really rough year for our family. We lost both our mom and grandma that year, so being able to see him come so far, after having all that happen is tremendous,” said Angela Coughlin, John’s sister.
And like his father, John Coughlin wants to be a police officer someday.
