KANSAS CITY, Missouri - The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Conference has a new commissioner. And his last name might sound familiar to Chiefs fans.
Dr. Bob Boerigter has been selected as the next commissioner of the MIAA by the conference’s Chief Executive Officers Council. Boerigter’s son, Marc, is a former Chiefs wide receiver.
“I am honored to have been asked to serve as the MIAA’s next commissioner,” Dr. Boerigter said. “I am looking forward to serving our membership in this capacity as we continue to expand and grow our services for our member institutions.”
Dr. Boerigter served as the athletic director at Northwest Missouri State the last nine years. He’ll replace Jim Johnson, who resigned after three years with the MIAA to become the director of athletics at Pittsburg State University.
The former leader of Northwest Missouri State athletics will start with the MIAA on September 20. He’s the fourth full-time commissioner in MIAA history. Dr. Boerigter was one of 23 people who applied for the MIAA position.
The MIAA is a member of the NCAA and Division II, with 12 schools in Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.
