KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A KU Olympian named Diamond has some shiny new hardware to show off on campus.
Monday night, Diamond Dixon received her gold medal when she arrived back in Kansas City from London.
Dixon ran the third leg for Team USA in the semi-finals of the 4x400 meter relay, to secure a spot in the finals.
Her coach did not select Dixon to run in the final round. However, her teammates sealed the deal for the victory.
"Everything happens for a reason,” Dixon said. “I know how it feels to not be out there, and I'm definitely going to work hard for next year to make sure I'm out there and on that relay."
Dixon says she hopes to compete for Team USA at the world championships in Russia, and go the Rio Olympics in four years.
